How To Cut Out Seasonal Stress

With only a few weeks left until Xmas day the clock is officially ticking, and if you’re like me, you’ve probably got a hundred and one things left to do before you can finally put your feet up and relax!  If you want to get organised, save time and stay sane this festive season follow these five simple steps to cut down seasonal stress…

It doesn’t matter how much you’ve got to get done, with the right approach and mindset you can plow through the biggest to-do list with the minimal amount of stress.  Follow these 5 steps and enjoy feeling calm and in control over chrimbo:

1.  Write it down

Having your to-do list swirling around inside your head is a recipe for disaster!  Free your mind from the pressure of remembering a long list of tasks and instead write everything down that you need to get done.

2.  Delegate

There’s no need to try and be a super-hero over the holidays.  Once you’ve got your to-do list written down work out who can help you and delegate, delegate, delegate.  The most successful people in life have teams behind them that support them to achieve their goals – they don’t do everything themselves.  You’re no different, so work out who can help you and get them on board!

3.  Plan

Now you know what needs to be done, and by whom, put a plan of action in place on how you’re going to achieve each task on your to-do list.  What needs to be done to achieve each goal?  Plan each task and get organised – leaving the Xmas dinner to ‘chance’ isn’t a strategy for success, and as the saying goes “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail”.

4.  Schedule

Now you know exactly what you need to do, schedule time in your diary to get each task done and limit the amount of time you allow each task to the bare minimum.  If you’ve still got to buy gifts for example, don’t give yourself a whole day at the shopping center unless you really have that amount of time spare – by limiting yourself to 2 hours for example, you will force yourself to be more focused in your efforts and will have a much higher chance of achieving your goal in a shorter space of time.  Remember – the clock’s ticking, so saving time wherever you can in key!

5.  Be Strict

The secret to saving time is to commit to a deadline and stick to it!  If you’ve got to finish a project before the holiday’s block out time in your diary and then pretend you’re in an exam – time is strictly limited, so focus your mind, get the task at hand done, and watch your productivity soar!

And one little bonus tip – eliminate!  Ask yourself whether you really need to buy that extra gift, prepare another desert, delete every email out of your inbox, or finish your work to absolute perfection?  In most cases the answer will be no.  Take the pressure off and give yourself a break – after all, that’s what holidays are about!

One Response to How To Cut Out Seasonal Stress

  1. Great article Faye! The thing that works best for me is to definitely write stuff down. It allows me to clear my mind to focus on more important things, instead of trying to remember everything.

I really like what you said about delegating and I will have to implement that tip. I can’t do everything myself and expect to get something done, there’s just no way!

Thanks for the article and the advice, this will definitely help me a lot as I begin my own coaching practice.
