10 Top Tips To Create More Time In Your Day

Lots of people kick-off January feeling motivated to reach their goals and excited about the year ahead, but unfortunately by February many of those noble plans have fallen by the wayside.  For that precise reason the shortest month of the year has been slapped with the title ‘Time Management Month’ in an effort to get those plans back on track and to make sure your calendar is working for you, not against you!

Time Management Month

With all of that mind I would like to share with you my top 10 tips for managing your time smartly so that you can focus on the things that are important to you, get your month and year back on track, and ultimately get more done in less time.

So here goes…

  1. Set Goals – if you don’t know what you want to achieve you can’t possibly manage your time smartly
  2. Have A Strategy – you need to know HOW you’re going to achieve your goals in order to prioritise
  3. Prioritise – ditch the huge to-do list and instead focus on the things that DIRECTLY contribute to your goals
  4. Plan – plan your day the night before so that you start your day productively … success breeds success
  5. Schedule – block out time in your diary to complete your key tasks and stick to those times without fail
  6. Batch – carry out routine tasks together in blocks of time instead of checking email for example throughout the entire day
  7. Eliminate – cut your to-do list down by eliminating or delegating tasks that don’t contribute to your key goals
  8. Focus – turn off distractions such as email alerts, Facebook updates, text messages etc to avoid ‘Constant Partial Attention’ where your brain has to keep flicking between different tasks, therefore wasting time
  9. Unsubscribe – avoid wasting time deleting and instead unsubscribe from emails, newsletters and group messages that you don’t regularly read or get value from
  10. Be Consistent – “Ordinary things, consistently done, produce extraordinary results”.  Don’t just dip your toe in Time Management Month – choose to immerse yourself on a daily basis!  These tips, when carried out consistently, WILL make a big difference to your day.

To get started, pick 3 of these points and commit to practicing them everyday for the next 21 days … that’s how long it takes to install a new habit, and by the time you finish you won’t need TIme Management Month to remind you why taking care of your most precious commodity is crucial.
