Here’s How I Get REALLY Motivated Fast

It’s all well and good thinking about the job you REALLY want to secure or the business you REALLY want to build, but if you’re struggling to motivate yourself to go after those goals then the end vision clearly isn’t enough to propel you into action.  If you’re keen to start seeing results, fast, then there’s one thing you must focus on to get moving in the right direction…

As humans everything we do is out of a desire to avoid pain or to find pleasure.  But – and here’s the linchpin – we will invariably do MORE to avoid pain than we will to find pleasure.

What this means is that to shift from inaction to action, and give yourself a much-needed shot of motivation, you must firstly focus on the PAIN of not achieving your goals before you spend time fantasizing about how great it’s going to be when you reach them.

So for example, if you’re sick of your job, focusing on how much you hate what you do everyday, dislike you boss, or are sick of being underpaid will provide stronger motivation to change jobs than if you sit around dreaming of your ideal career.

Similarly, if you want to lose weight, thinking about how uncomfortable you feel,  how hard it is to walk up the stairs, or how you can’t fit into your favorite clothes will provide the pain required to shift you into action MORE quickly than thinking about how great it will feel when you’re 5kg’s lighter.

Pain is only a short-term motivator and certainly shouldn’t be used as a long-term strategy to achieve your goals, BUT as a quick fix to get you moving in the right direction fast it’s the perfect shot of motivation that most people need to get started.

So take a moment now to think about the goals you’re struggling to achieve, and write down your answers to these questions:-

  • What will it cost you if you don’t achieve your goal?  Consider time, money, lifestyle, friends etc
  • What is it already costing you mentally, emotionally, physically and financially?
  • How is this impacting your life and the people around you?

If you want something enough, your answers to these questions will help create the leverage you need to get started, and once you’re moving forward THEN start focusing on the positive side of what you want to achieve.
