How To End The Year On A High… Quickly!

In just over 8 weeks we’ll be heading into 2016 – another year over and another set of new years resolutions to make and break!  The good news is that NOW is a great time to focus on the key things you want to achieve that will allow you to end 2015 on a high.   So if you’ve not made the progress you’d hoped for this year, don’t give up just yet.  Here’s how to get your year back on track…

Pause Panic

The good thing about running out of time is that it can force us to think strategically and focus on what’s really important, instead of getting distracted by the ‘noise’ that we often find ourselves surrounded by on a daily basis.

Importantly, don’t panic that the end of the year is nigh – with the right approach and mindset there’s plenty of time left to make some impressive headway!  Follow these 3 simple steps to help you get the most out of the next eight weeks:-

Step 1:  Reality Check

If your goal at the start of the year was to set up your own business, change career, or move overseas for example, the good news is that it’s still possible.  BUT you need to be honest with yourself about how much time and effort you’re willing to put in over the next 2 months to make that dream a reality.

If you want it badly enough, it’s yours.  But from my experience, too many people want the easy-ride or the low-risk option to achieve their goals, and are ultimately too lazy or afraid to make it happen.

Take a moment now to consider whether you’re REALLY willing to do what’s required to reach your goals.  If you are then good for you, you’ve got the right attitude.  But if your goal is too daunting, and you’re not willing to put in the effort required, consider changing your goal or compromising on what you what to achieve instead of totally giving up.

Step 2:  Break It Down

Now you’ve committed to making the most of the next two months you need to break your goal down into manageable chunks so that it doesn’t become too overwhelming to achieve.   Here are some examples of how you can do that:-

  • Career Change: Write down all of the steps you need to take to work out WHAT you want to do and HOW you’re going to do it and then diarise when you are going to action them
  • Lose Weight: Write down how much weight you want to lose each week to reach your end goal and what exercise and diet plans you need to follow on a daily and weekly basis
  • Get Fit: Write down what getting fit means to you so that you know what you’re aiming for and then devise a daily exercise plan that is scheduled in your diary at the start of each week
  • Secure More Business:  Write down a daily marketing plan that is clearly aligned with your target audience and diarise the actions you need to take each day to follow that plan
  • Complete A Project: Write down each step that needs to be actioned to reach your goal and when you are going to do each specific task

The key here is to make each of the tasks required to reach your goals easy to action, and to schedule them in your diary so that ‘running out of time’ doesn’t become another convenient excuse.  We all have the same amount of time as each other but it’s what you DO with it that makes the difference, and with careful planning it’s amazing how much MORE you can achieve on a daily basis.

Step 3:  Action & Review

With minimal time left it’s important that you focus on your goals on a DAILY basis … reviewing them weekly isn’t going to be enough, especially if you lose time and fall behind on your plan.  So once you have each task booked into your diary, make sure you review your schedule on a daily basis to ensure that you’re on track, and importantly, take consistent action to achieve your goals.  All the planning in the world won’t help you end the year on a high if you haven’t actually DONE what you’ve committed to.

Set yourself up for a fabulous 2016 by ending this year on a high.  Commit to doing something about the things that are important to you right now, and make sure don’t write the next 2 months off just because you haven’t achieved your goals by now.

It’s amazing what you can accomplish in a short time-frame when you really set your mind to it, and you’ll enjoy the end of the year MUCH more if you give it your best shot now!
