Aim For An Oscar To Get Your Goals

This isn’t an article on how to become a film star, although drawing on your drama skills from school is a great place to start if you want to be wildly successful.  One of the greatest ways to achieve success is to act as though you’ve already reached your goals. Turn yourself into an Oscar winning performer and start being the person you want to be…

Proven Strategy To Achieve Success

Author Richard Bach said, “To fly as fast as thought, to be anywhere there is, you must first begin by knowing that you have already arrived“.   So here’s the key – if you knew you had “already arrived” and achieved the success you’re looking for, what would that picture look like and importantly, how would you be acting?

This behaviour and thought process sends powerful commands to your subconscious mind which in turn allows you notice what you need around you to help you succeed.  For example, if you want to get promoted start acting as if you’ve already got the job – this will allow you to start thinking and behaving differently which in turn will help you achieve results over and above the demands of your current position.  You will start to see the team or business you’re in from the perspective of a more senior employee and the reticular activating system (RAS) in your brain will start noticing the attributes and actions required to succeed in the more senior role.

If you want to lose weight, act as if you’ve already reached your goal.  If you were 10 kilo’s lighter, wearing two-dress size’s smaller and living a healthy and active lifestyle, would you grab McDonalds for lunch or miss the gym for a week?  I doubt it.

I’ve been practicing this strategy for the last two years and it works.  When I started Outshine Consulting, with no clients and no money, I acted as if I had an established business and conducted client meetings in the way I would if I had the infrastructure and backing of a far larger establishment.  I didn’t lie about my business, or allude to it being anything more than I was, but the way I carried myself, the way I dressed, the way I behaved and the way I communicated gave the impression of someone who was already running a much larger and more successful company.

I thought intensely about how someone already in the position I wanted to be in would conduct themselves, and I copied that picture.  As a result I won two large contracts that I never previously thought a ‘one-woman-band’ could secure, both of which have helped elevate my business and move me closer to my ‘dream’.

So start today – get clear on where you’re heading and what success looks like to you, and then start acting as if you’ve already reached that point.  How would you act if you were the top biller in your sales team, a wealthy entrepreneur, a best-selling author, or a successful business owner?

Anything is possible with the right strategies and this is one I hope you enjoy as much as I have!
