3 Ways To Make A Career Change Easier

If you’re in the market for a new job or are contemplating a career change there are a whole host of things you should be doing to get the role you really want.  But if you’re finding the whole process a bit overwhelming, focus on these 3 fundamental steps first to help move your career forward and in the direction of a job you love…

1.  Be Sell-able

As time ticks by it’s important that you keep up to date if you want people to want you. Stay marketable by ensuring that you keep your skills, training and education current so that you make it easy for employers to hire you.  If you have a professional certification don’t let it expire, and if there’s a specific qualification relevant to your industry or ideal career make sure you are taking the right steps to obtain it.

2.  Be Current

No-one wants to read through a badly written resume or a poor social media profile.  They also don’t want to have to trawl through your retail experience when you were 17 just to find out what you’re actually doing now.  Make sure that EVERY SINGLE piece of marketing collateral you have about yourself is well written and current.

3.  Be Seen

Don’t hide behind recruiters or on-line job boards.  If you want to get ahead in your career you must know what’s going on in your preferred industry and be on top of who’s hiring and what the top jobs are.  Make sure you’re reading industry publications, visiting company websites, attending networking functions, and connecting on and off-line with the movers and shakers in your chosen company or industry.
