3 Reasons Why Daydreaming Is Good For Your Career

What would you like to be doing right now if you could design a different career for yourself with no holds barred?   If you’re fed up with your job and are struggling to answer that question then it’s time to sit down and spend a few moments daydreaming – it could be just what the doctor ordered to transform your career.

Smart Questions

One of the biggest stumbling blocks I’ve seen people come up against when they’re sick of their career, is that they won’t let their mind wander and explore what they really want their ideal life to look like.  All too often it’s because they don’t believe that change is possible, or that it seems unrealistic to start imagining the perfect career when you’re 5, 10, 15 years down the track in a profession that’s poles apart from what you’d really like to be doing.

Many people can relate to these scenario’s, and there was a time when I was exactly the same.  The problem is though that if you don’t ask yourself some smart questions, and allow yourself to daydream, then you cut off the possibility that your ideal career is achievable.   And with that mindset, what do you think is going to happen?  Yep, you’ll stay firmly put in your current job or career.

Daydreaming is good for your career because it:-

  1. Opens up your mind – give yourself the opportunity to think about what you’d REALLY like to be doing instead of being defined by what seems realistic – with the right imagination and attitude any career change IS possible
  2. Creates opportunity – as soon as you think outside of the box about what you really want to do it’s amazing how many new doors will open up for you
  3. Improves motivation – you will be much more inspired to do something about a career change if you have an exciting vision or goal to focus on

So spend a few moments now daydreaming about your ideal career and imagine what your answers to these questions might be…..

  • What does the ideal job look like to you?
  • What would you like to spend your day doing?
  • What hours would you like to work?
  • What location would be ideal for you?
  • Do you want to work on your own or in a team?
  • How much money do you want to earn?
  • What is your purpose for going to work?
  • What do you want to achieve in your career?

You don’t have to have all the answers, and significantly, you don’t have to know HOW to achieve your ideal career, you just need to open your mind up to the fact that having a career you love is a REAL possibility if you want it….
