If you’ve ever found yourself ‘stuck in a rut’ you’ll know that it can cause frustration, anger and often an overwhelming sense of inactivity. The good news is that it IS possible to escape this negative cycle and get your wheels turning again.
Follow these 5 tips to break that vicious cycle: –
Tip 1: Define Success
It’s vital to know what being ‘out of the rut’ looks like, otherwise how will you know you’ve escaped?! So first and foremost grab a pen and paper, and write down what that picture looks like to you. An easy way to get your creative thoughts flowing is to complete this sentence:-
Write down at least 10 options – no matter how big or small they are.
Tip 2: What Means The Most To You?
Now pick one option from your list that means the most to you, and choose to do something about it today. ALL change begins with a decision so be honest with yourself about what you really want and be prepared to do something about it now.
Spend some time brainstorming all the little things you could do to start achieving your goal. Your actions don’t need to be big or elaborate – in fact, the smaller they are the more likely you are to achieve them, so make the tasks bite-sized and manageable, and take one step at a time.
Tip 3: Argue With Yourself
Believe it or not, no-one can do as much damage to your self-confidence and self-image as you! So it’s time to argue with yourself: every time you say “I can’t” – disagree! Every time you create a limiting belief about yourself – disagree. Instead of listening to your greatest opponent (you!) note down all the ways you can do something and start loading yourself up with more powerful and positive ways to escape that rut.
Tip 4: Be Serious
It’s critical that you view your own happiness and success as important. If you feel like should always put others first it’s highly likely that you’ll sabotage your own ambitions. Remember: your happiness is your responsibility and no-one else’s!
Tip 5: Build Your Support Network
If you can afford it, hire a coach to support you and keep you accountable. Or seek out a mentor or motivated individual who can help you move forward. Motivation and support are critical factors in escaping the rut, so set yourself up for success by surrounding yourself with the right people today.
