How To Earn More Than 97% Of Harvard Graduates

A 1950’s study tracked a class of Harvard graduates and the results showed that 25 years later the 3% of grads who had written down their goals were richer than the remaining 97% who didn’t – combined!  With results like that, why is it that most people don’t have written goals?  If it’s been a while since you put pen to paper and scribbled down your ambitions you need to keep reading…

It’s Not Magic

With the second half of the year nearly upon us now is a great time to make sure you know what your goals are if you really want to make 2011 a successful year.

However, purely thinking about the job you’d like to have or the house you’d like to own is more daydreaming than goal setting.   One of the important keys to actually achieving what you want in life  is to get it written down rather than having your great ideas and aspirations swirling around inside your head.

From my experience the majority of people who have an inkling about what they’d like to achieve in life haven’t gone as far as writing their goals down.  And then what happens?   Their goal gets diluted or warped over time and before you know it the busyness of life has taken hold and their goals have pretty much been forgotten.  Does that sound like you?  It’s happened to most of us at some point or another!

Writing your goals down isn’t the equivalent of a magic wand guaranteeing that your dreams will come true, BUT it is the start of a process that can actually help you achieve your aspirations instead of simply forgetting them!

There are many more tactics you can employ to ensure you achieve your goals, but for today, start with this simple one.  Grab a pen and notepad now and spend a few minutes writing down what you would like to achieve by the end of the year.  Consider your career, health, finances, personal development and relationships.  Above all, have fun thinking about the future and how exciting it could be with a bit of direction and motivation to go after it.

What would you like to achieve by 31 December 2011? Post your comments below and commit to your goals today!
