If you’ve ever been to a gym before I’m pretty sure you’ve seen this scenario play out: person in active wear pedaling on a bike, wheels slowing turning round, all the time mesmerized by smart phone/Facebook/text messaging. You’ve seen that, right?
Yeah, me too – this morning actually. But this isn’t a post about fitness goals, it’s way more than that.
We all know that just because you’re at the gym, sitting on a bike, doesn’t mean you’re going to kick your fitness goals. The missing ingredient, which is vital if you actually want to get results, is effort – something that was definitely missing from what I could see this morning.
Now some might say that turning up and giving 10% is better than nothing. BUT (and it’s a big but) in a world where so many of us are rushed off our feet and struggling to make it to the gym at all, don’t you think it’s better to give it your all and make the most of the time you’ve got?
The same goes for your career.
If you’re looking for a new job, are keen to get promoted, or would love to change career, there’s no point just pussy-footing around, toying with the idea, and doing things halfheartedly – because ultimately only one of two things will happen if you take that approach – either: –
If you take your career seriously BOTH options can be very costly.
So here’s the thing: if you’re going to do something you may as well give it your best shot, because the time will pass anyway, but the result YOU personally experience can be wildly different.
If you’re going to spend your time at work, why not focus on delivering amazing results whilst you’re there?
If you’re going to look for a new job, why not do it with gusto and go all-out to find your perfect position?
If you want to change career, why not dive deep into ‘how’ and get the best advice and direction you can?
And of course, if you’re going to bother putting on your active wear, why not actually sweat a bit (lot) too?…
So where do you need to put in extra effort? Don’t just meander along, scraping by with minimal results. If you’re going to spend the time doing something, you might as well do it well. Get committed, get focused, and get the results your career and life deserve.
